Blue Moon (Swing-Style Blues)
This band is composed of six Kalamazoo area veteran musicians of varied musical background that have found common ground in a love of the blues. All have a particular fondness for swing-style blues as is more commonly found on the West Coast. The flavor of an ensemble’s sound is made unique by the individual’s musical varied background, and by the chemistry that occurs when they come together around a song. Charlu Wanzer, the principal singer, was brought up on Gospel, Soul and R&B, and has toured extensively with Lou Wilson; Danny Diaz, percussionist, came up saturated by Detroit R& B, Tex Mex and Chicago Blues; Dale Hein, harpist and vocalist, found a home in jazz, swing and traditional blues harp music; Bill LaValley, came into the scene through Chicago style blues playing in various area bands and Dave Carambula, guitar and vocals, cut his musical teeth with electric Blues & American Folk music. Eric Richter, the newest member, is the keyboardist and sings backup and lead vocals, having been a member in various area bands, most recently Red Rooster. Bill and Dave are the writing team for the band and their originals are featured in their debut album Risin’, “Live at the State Theater” and their newest CD “Cool, Cool River”. Their music is at once energetic and soulful, and they don’t mind ranging from the drama of “Passion Queen”, to the cynically funny Mumbo Jumbo, with lyrics penned by Dale.During the 8 years as a musical unit, Blue Moon has gathered a song list that contains, a wide variety in style, mood and energy, covering a lot of ground in what is today a very broad genre, always done with conviction and style and will be sure to entertain.http://www.bluemoonbluesband.com/
